-
- Turbo Menu Long Description
-
- Turbo Menu combines the best features of existing menu programs into one
- easy to use package that is enjoyed by thousands of users each day. The
- following is a brief summary of its features.
-
- Automatic Menu Generation
-
- Turbo Menu's installation program is unrivaled by any other menu
- program. When it is installed, your hard disk is searched for
- nearly 1000 popular application programs, and menus are
- automatically created. With this feature, a complete computer
- novice can be up and running with Turbo Menu in a couple of
- minutes with less than 10 keystrokes.
-
- Network Compatibility
-
- Although Turbo Menu is simple to operate, it is fully compatible
- with all popular networks including NetWare, VINES, 3Com, LAN
- Manager, PC Lan Server, Lantastic and any DOS-based network.
-
- Multiple Password Protection
-
- Turbo Menu now has five levels of passwords:
-
- 1. Separate passwords to select or edit each menu item;
- 2. Separate passwords to edit each menu;
- 3. Single master password to edit all menus;
- 4. Single password for exit to DOS;
- 5. Single password to edit configuration.
-
- Mouse support
-
- All of the menus support the use of a mouse. Simply scroll to
- the item you desire by moving the mouse and click the left mouse
- button to select.
-
- Unlimited Sub-Menus
-
- Turbo Menu supports an unlimited number of sub-menus. There is
- absolutely no limit to the number of programs or sophistication
- of the menu system you can create with Turbo Menu.
-
- User Configurable Colors and Shapes
-
- If you do not like the color choices that come as the defaults
- with Turbo Menu, do not despair. All colors can be changed as
- you desire. Five different menu shapes are supported. Each menu
- can have its own color and shape.
-
- Flexible Memory Requirements
-
- Turbo Menu has two functions to reduce memory requirements. It
- operates in both resident and non-resident mode. Non- resident
- mode uses a batch file to execute your programs. This method uses
- zero additional memory to run your application. Thus, TSR
- programs such as Sidekick can be run and removed from memory
- within Turbo Menu. A resident mode is also offered. This mode
- uses approximately 6K in addition to the memory used by your
- applications. The advantage to this mode is that it is somewhat
- faster than the non-resident mode. The beauty of Turbo Menu is
- that it can run your programs in either mode simply by changing
- one data field.
-
- Log File and Usage Reports
-
- If you are curious about how a computer is used during the day,
- Turbo Menu's log feature can provide great insight. This
- optional function allows you to track computer usage through a
- log file, which is a summary of the date and time each menu item
- was selected. It also shows the date and time when the
- application exits and Turbo Menu regains control. Reports can be
- generated which summarize computer use by each menu item per
- month and with an annual summary. The log file can also be
- commented by the user as a menu item is selected to document
- additional information for client billing or other uses.
-
- Hypertext Documentation
-
- Operation of Turbo Menu does not require paper documenatation due
- to a State-of-the-art Hypertext Help System. It provides a
- detailed reference to all of Turbo Menu's functions.
-
- Scrolling Menu Bars
-
- Each menu item is a separate bar on the menu, and there is always
- one highlighted menu item that is controlled with the arrow keys
- or mouse. Pressing enter selects the highlighted item. Each
- menu item also has a Hot Key that can be used to select it
- without using the scrolling menu bar (See Below).
-
- Shortcut Hot Keys
-
- Turbo Menu uses function keys and keys A-Z as hot keys. Thus,
- you can execute any of your favorite programs by pressing a
- single key.
-
- Automatically Adjusting Menus
-
- Turbo Menu is designed so that there are no blank menu items. The
- menus automatically adjust in size depending on the number of
- items. Many menu programs have 10 options on each menu, and if
- all of them are not used, they remain blank. Turbo Menu only
- displays menu items that are not blank. There are 26 possible
- menu items on each menu. If only the first 17 are being used,
- then the menu only displays 17 menu items.
-
- Clock
-
- As a convenience, the time is always displayed in the upper left
- corner of the screen. In addition, the time is displayed in the
- scrolling screen protection mode described below.
-
- Flexible Screen Protection
-
- Monochrome monitors are subject to "burn in" if the same
- characters are left on the screen for an extended period of time.
- To prevent this, Turbo Menu can be configured so that the screen
- blanks after a period of time. Users can choose from a flashy
- kaleidoscope screen saver or a scrolling text box.
-
- Flexible Hard Disk Parking
-
- Another problem with letting a computer stand idle, other than
- monitor "burn in," is hard disk corruption. Turbo Menu can
- alleviate this problem by automatically parking your hard disk so
- the heads are not left above sensitive disk areas while the
- computer stands idle. A built in hard disk parker can be
- configured to park your hard disk whenever the screen blanks.
- This is purely optional.
-
- Text Editor
-
- Turbo Menu includes a text editor that can be used to edit batch
- files or any other type of ASCII text file. The editor is stored
- in a file named COMPED.EXE and can be executed without leaving
- Turbo Menu. Simply specify the name of the batch file while
- editing a menu item and press F2 to edit.
-
- Directory Utility
-
- If you cannot remember the name of a file you want to make part
- of your menu, you can use Turbo Menu's scrolling directory
- utility to find the file. Highlight the file with the mouse or
- arrow keys, press ENTER and the path and file name are
- automatically installed as a menu item.
